Solar PV FAQ's

Are solar panels worth it in the UK?

Yes, Solar panels can significantly reduce electric bills. Despite the UK's reputation, we actually more than enough solar energy to make solar panels a great investment, even on the cloudy days.

How long does the installation take?

The full installation normally takes around 3-7 days, depending on the size of the job.

What size solar panels do I need?

The size of the panel system depends on your electricity consumption and available roof or ground space.

Do I need planning permission for solar panels?

In most cases, solar panel installations in the UK fall under "Permitted Development Rights", this means you don't need planning permission. However, there are exceptions, especially on listed building or properties in conservation areas.

What is a G99 and why do I need it?

A G99 is an application we make on your behalf to your District Network Operator (DNO), to register your solar panels.

This can take up to 45 days for the application to be accepted, we will chase this through on your behalf.

What does it mean to be MCS Certified?

MCS is an industry-led quality assurance scheme, which demonstrates the quality and reliability of approved products and installation companies. Being MCS certified demonstrates to customers that you install/manufacture to the industry-expected level of quality every time

What happens if I generate more electricity than I use?

We can supply your installation with a battery so you can store the energy, if not it will go back into the national grid.

Is my roof suitable for solar panels?

Whether your roof faces south, east or west your home is perfect to have solar panels fitted. North facing roofs do not receive as much sunlight. The pitch of your roof should be between 20° - 50°.

We can also install on the ground if you have sufficient space available.

How long do solar panels last?

Most solar panels comes with warranties ranging from 20 to 25 years, they can last well beyond their warranty period, with a gradual decrease in efficiency over time.

Can I monitor how my energy they are generating?

Yes, we will install a meter, also most inverters and batteries come with an App so you can see how much electricity you are generating yourself.

When will I see a return on my investment?

You will almost immediately notice a saving on your energy prices, most Solar PV systems pay for themselves between 6-10 years. Annual Savings are around £1300.

What happens if something stops working?

Following the installation we will provide you with all your product warranties, we also provide a 24-month workmanship warranty.
